There is a lot of debate on whether or not measuring body fat directly is better than relying on body mass index, and I have some strong feelings on this issue.
However, I have also made my fair share of mistakes when it comes to body fat measurement, and I have found that my biggest problem was a lack of training.
You see, when I was training to become a body builder I made every mistake imaginable, and when it came to body fat measurement I didn’t have any problems at all.
This was because I trained every single day of the week, everyday. The day I didn’t train was a Saturday, and I figured if I didn’t do anything the day before then my body would already be in a growth mode and I wouldn’t have to worry about any fat measurement that day. It certainly did not work out like that.
If you are going to use body fat measurement, then make sure you use a good weight lifting program.
One that takes its time and develops a good muscle program so that your muscles always have something to do.

Therefore, when we use these measurement units in our manual, we are actually using something that is not really there – but we are depending on the manufacturer’s manual for information, and this is not ideal.
Furthermore, another problem that I see with measurement practice is when you are using equipment such as a tape measure, or a digital scale.
In these cases, the measurement that you are doing is not actually taking the weight of the product, but is actually taking the weight of the rubber bands that are used to keep the volume of the object to be measured.
Digital scales also tend to have a lot more slop than a tape measure, and tend to measure things very inaccurately in general.
When you are using a tape measure, you are almost guaranteed precision, and therefore, are better for precise measurements.
